WHY BOTHER TO RECYCLE IN BEAUTIFUL
DOUGLAS COUNTY ?
- Think Green was a great saying
that started the movement to recycle.
- We ask you to think about the
"Future", what life will our future generations have if we
don't protect this planet.
- Oregon is called Gods country,
lets not let it fall into the places like Los Angeles and
New York. Only you and you alone can prevent it.
- You will not convince oil
companies to not produce fuels, you will not convince other
companies to stop polluting, that is something our
legislators do. And putting your "X" and voting for a
environmentally friendly candidate is not enough. You must
pitch in.
- We have designed this site to help
even the busiest person to recycle and re-use.

Is Douglas County Making
The Grade? The News ! (update
June 2007)
- Sadly the answer is no, the
recycling system in Douglas County has in place only meet 6% of
all material that we here in Douglas County dispose off.
Oregon its self is also down to an average of less then 12
percent. Cities like Portland and Medford fair slightly
better. ( stats verified in a
state study)
- In a state that prides its self
on the environment and will look down at places like
Californian and New York, its found that big cities like
San Francisco have a 65% ratio of all material disposed of is
recycled, and New York City is at about 60%.
- Do you feel embarrassed ?, I
did when I wrote this article for the front page, and found
our green state, is one of the worse at recycling.
I have seen advertisements in many
County's including our own. But to be honest we waste more
time here talking about recycling then actually doing it.
Each year the county spends money on TV advertising, again
wasting resources of our County, the last 3 years the landfill at DouglasCounty's sites have
grown at over 50% while population only rose at 7.5% .
Doesn't take much to see we are not only failing at recycling we
are actually losing ground.
So what can you do?
First all all persuade the county to stop spending money on ads
on TV and get some serious education going with local businesses.
Our Tax dollars paying for time and Dog ads on TV
talking about recycling perhaps some of you have seen. That is a
waste of our resources and our tax dollars to spend money on Dog
ads for recycling. When the county is losing ground in recycling
we need action not cute TV ads. When asked the County did not
reply to our request to explain the costs involved.
So, write your commissioners (1036
SE Douglas County Courthouse Roseburg, OR 97470-3317)
and tell them you want
action. Not only this but tell them you want the staff to take
charge and make those that run our recycling system to do
something to change the status. Do you know the Recycling Staff
at the county is paid $40,000+ a year ? Why are we paying
for a service that fails. But don't blame the County,
blame the system that's in place. And make the people in
charge earn the money their paid.
The county has refused invitations to create
a county wide system, and to work together on these projects and
has done so the last 3 years. Further more our ( DouglasRecycle.com) site exists solely because the county did
not want to cooperate with the citizens in our community and
create a site like this site. www.DouglasCountyRecycle.com
which we own, was offered free of charge to the county and they
refused to cooperate or work unless there name was regonized. It is important to post material like this
to help the community to be aware that politics are at all
levels even our garbage system. We at DouglasRecycle do not
promote our names or volunteers our job is to honestly promote
the welfare of the County. Leaving all politics and influences
at the door.
Its is becoming all to
common that our County and its employees only do something when
their called on it or caught doing something.
- We wish readers to understand as tax
payers too we appreciate what the County and State do to prevent
and manage our recycling system. But bottom line is, a
recycling system is managed like ours by the Government
employees that are hired to do it. And you are not going to get your tax paying money
used the best way possible we never seem to, but the beauty of
our state is at risk. And in 20-30 years when these employees of
the State and County that used our tax dollars poorly will be paid for
sitting in their rocking chairs collection a pension, well we
expect that a job was done well to collect it.... don't we?
